NEW RABBI APPOINTMENT
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Rabbi Yanky Abrams together with his wife Rochel, as the new Rabbi and Rebbetzen of Loughton Shul.
We look forward to welcoming both of them together with their 2 children, Mushka and Yosef Yitzchok, to the Loughton Community the weekend of March 1st for Shabbat UK and then full time from March 24th 2019.
Rabbi Yanky, originally from Manchester, joins us from his most recent position at Woodford Forest Shul – where he has been the assistant Rabbi for the last 18 months; and many of you will already know Rochel, originally from Canada, who has been the headteacher of Loughton Cheder since September 2018. In addition many of you will have already met Rabbi Yanky and Rochel last November when they held a very special Friday night dinner at Loughton Shul for the Cheder Children and guests followed by a Shabbat day lunch – both of which were very well received by those that attended.
Both Rabbi Yanky and Rochel bring with them a passion and enthusiasm for Judaism together with a very friendly, approachable and non-judgmental manner which we believe will enhance the Loughton Community.
There’s a place for you at Loughton Synagogue
Loughton Synagogue, founded in 1947, is a distinctly warm and friendly Orthodox Jewish congregation, located in the heart of leafy west Essex on the edge of Epping Forest. We’re large enough to be a full-service congregation that offers you and your family every opportunity to expand your Jewish horizons. But we’re small enough for you to feel known and welcome.
At Loughton Synagogue, your family is our most important concern. Whether yours is a observant or less observant household, a single parent home, or have a family member with special needs, there are programmes designed for you.
We invite you to explore our Synagogue, Mums and Tots group and Religious School to see how Loughton Synagogue can serve your entire family.
Loughton Synagogue Is:
- A modern, egalitarian congregation, pre-school, religious school, adult education and worship centre, founded in 1962, with an innovative approach to traditional Jewish values
- A warm and inviting atmosphere celebrating Torah and the traditions of Jewish life through the values of education, spirituality and community
- A place where bridges are built to strengthen Jewish life.
- A member of the Federation of Synagogues
Everyone’s unique. Yet no matter where you are in your life, you can experience Jewish life to its fullest with Loughton Synagogue.
Some look to a synagogue for inspiring messages from the Rabbis. Others want songful prayers from the Hazzanim and Cantors. Still others simply want to be part of a social congregation and participate in programs that exemplify Jewish living. At Loughton Synagogue, you’ll find exactly what you want — in a home for long-term spiritual growth that celebrates every step of the journey.
For children, Loughton Synagogue is a place to flourish and find their Jewish identity. For adults, it’s a place to gather, worship and socialize with others who share similar beliefs and values. For grandparents and other family members, it’s a place to share holidays and celebratory events that create strong memories and even stronger ties.
Loughton Synagogue is more than a synagogue, religious school, mums and tots group — it is a community. We’re a caring community of people — each unique like you — looking to grow and share the Jewish journey together.
We invite you to find out why so many families have chosen Loughton Synagogue. We think you’ll agree: Loughton Synagogue is a special place … the right place for you and your family. We are an all encompassing and welcoming community. Led by our young Rabbi we strive to create a community where everyone, irrespective of their level of observance, can feel at home, valuing their contribution.
The synagogue answers the needs of the community by providing regular services on Friday nights, Shabbat and all Festivals. We hold a regular monthly Sunday morning breakfast minyan. We are an ideal venue for simchas, small weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, brit milahs (our rabbi is a qualified mohel), baby naming’s and other life cycle ceremonies. We are renowned for our Shabbat morning Kiddush as lovingly made by our very own Ladies Guild.
In addition to our regular services, we provide shiurim (Informal educational discussion groups) as well as social and cultural activities. We are the only weekend children’s cheder in North East London.
Thank you again for visiting our website, and we look forward to welcoming you to our community.
