About Us
Loughton Synagogue, founded in 1947, is a distinctly warm and friendly Orthodox Jewish congregation, located in the heart of leafy West Essex on the edge of Epping Forest. We’re large enough to be a full-service congregation that offers you and your family every opportunity to expand your Jewish horizons. But we’re small enough for you to feel known and welcome.
At Loughton Synagogue, your family is our most important concern. No matter your Jewish knowledge, we are here for you. We invite you to explore our Synagogue; Mums and Tots group; Cheder and Adult Education to see how Loughton Synagogue can serve your entire family.
Loughton Synagogue Is:
- A warm and inviting atmosphere celebrating Torah and the traditions of Jewish life through the values of education, spirituality, and community
- A place where bridges are built to strengthen Jewish life
- An affiliate member of the Federation of Synagogues
Everyone’s unique. Yet no matter where you are in your life, you can experience Jewish life to its fullest with Loughton Synagogue.
Loughton Synagogue is more than a synagogue, cheder, or services — it is a community. We’re a caring community of people — each unique like you — looking to grow and share the Jewish journey together.
We invite you to find out why so many families have chosen Loughton Synagogue. We think you’ll agree: Loughton Synagogue is a special place … the right place for you and your family. Please let us know if we can provide you with more information on Loughton Synagogue or assist in your membership by e-mailing our admin admin@loughtonsynagogue.com.
About Our Rabbinic team
Rabbi Yanky Abrams together with his wife Rochel and children Mushka and Yosef have joined our shul in March 2019 (since then Elimelech and Shaina) and together they have introduced various improvements which we are delighted with. Rabbi Yanky, originally from Manchester, joined us from his previous position at Woodford Forest Shul – where he had been the assistant Rabbi for 18 months.and Rochel, originally from Canada, had already been the headteacher of Loughton Cheder since September 2018, a position she still holds. Both Rabbi Yanky and Rochel bring with them a passion and enthusiasm for Judaism together with a very friendly, approachable, and non-judgmental manner they have grown and enhanced the Loughton Community over the last 5 years
